I have no idea why the connectivity test accepts this certificate anyway.

Is there any reason exchangelib's autodiscover attempts to resolve the canonical hostname itself instead of letting requests figure it out? Looking in DNS for the canonical name is part of the autodiscover protocol, but I think our bug is to prefer the canonical name if it's available in DNS.
